Westfield House named finalists in National Learning Disability & Autism Awards 2021!

The National Learning and Disability Awards are a huge honour to be part of, and being named finalists in the Great Autism Practice Award means so much to all of us at Black Swan Care Group.

We have been continuously impressed with the teams ability to go above and beyond for our residents, which is why it is incredibly humbling for the home to be recognised for the outstanding work they do every day.

We spoke to Registered Home Manager Paul Stearman about what the award means to him:

"It means a great deal to me both professionally and personally: it is recognition of the hard work over the last 18 months and a culmination of 26 years experience working with individuals with Learning Disabilities and Autism'.

"To win would mean aknowledgement of the hard work, professionalism, determination and motivation of my team and myself. For the residents it would mean recognition that they live in a good place, and that they can be proud to call Westfield House home".

Paul is backed up by an amazing team at Westfield House who are always willing to go above and beyond for their residents, to ensure the highest quality of life and top-quality care on a daily basis.  This was outlined within the nomination, which listed a particularly touching moment between resident Paula and the Westfield House team.

Paula made the decision to 'Brave the shave' for MacMillan Cancer Support and with the help of the staff group to promote the cause, she raised over £200 for the charity. Paul was on-hand to assist Paula with the shave at her request, and her story was even featured in the local paper after Black Swan Care Group created a press release about her achievement.

We think this is a great example of why Westfield House are worthy finalists in the National Learning Disability & Autism Awards 2021.

They are continually adapting to residents individual needs, providing bespoke care packages, and giving residents truly unique and enriching experiences within our care. They are passionate about promoting choice and encouraging residents to be actively involved within their own care.

We asked Paul what is it that makes Westfield House different to other homes, he said:

"The resident and staff are what make Westfield House special, our residents are at the centre of all we do and staff are proud to work for such a lovely group of individuals.

"We support our residents in a person-centred way to ensure they live their best life.

"Our staff are motivated and determined that Westfield House provides our residents with opportunities and lifestyle choices that we would want for ourselves and loved ones.

"Westfield House is our residents home and we never forget that our job is quite unique, and we are in a position to make a difference, and that is what we try to do every day".

We are so proud of the team at Westfield House and are very excited for the awards ceremony, we wish you the best of luck!
