Residents were treated to an amazing afternoon full of fun and laughter, and were overjoyed to raise a total of £370 for the Gamlingay Food Project.

Residents and their loved ones celebrated our 2022 Summer Garden Party!

The Gamlingay Food Project are an amazing organisation who support local people through foodbanks and aim to reduce food waste in our communities.  Our residents chose this charity as they wanted to help people unable to afford food in the current economic climate, and elderly people within the local area.

The day was a huge success, made even more poignant to see our residents family and friends joining us for our first large-scale event since before the Covid19 pandemic.

It was an incredibly moment to see our residents and their families reunite in this way after such a long time without these community events, which we believe are an incredibly important part of the care we provide.

Residents were overjoyed to see their loved ones, with resident Ruth telling us: “There was good music, good food, and it was lovely to see my family all having fun”.

On the day residents were treated to a host of amazing activities – with the grounds of the home resembling a circus carnival complete with a bouncy castle, an ice cream van, and an amazing live performance by one of our residents favourite entertainers, Ernie Ball!

Residents raised funds and awareness for The Gamlingay Food Project throughout the day by selling tombola and raffle tickets, with all proceeds being given to this worthy cause.  In total raising an amazing £370!

Our wonderful kitchen team led by Chef Fiona and Assistant Cook Sharon went above and beyond to ensure we had an amazing array of refreshments throughout the day, including an amazing array of desserts such as Flapjacks, Shortbread, and Courgettes and Chocolate cake!

Our wonderful team member Matt became king of the barbeque, cooking up a host of amazing meals from around the world including chicken and gnocchi salad, burgers with Asian coleslaw, and marinated meat. Whilst Michelle took up the mantle of Potton View’s landlady for the day, providing her services serving drinks at our bar.

It was an amazing day for our residents which saw smiles and laughter all round, so much so that our residents wanted to share what an amazing time they had:

“Loved the party. Good food, good mix of people. The staff worked very hard” – Daphne

“Thoroughly enjoyed the event” – Marion

“The party was very, very good. The Singer (Ernie Ball) was very good! It was very pleasant with it all. Nice seeing people enjoying themselves” – Mary

We wanted to take a moment to thank all of the amazing local businesses who got involved with our fundraising campaign and kindly donated to our raffle prize fund. We wanted to thank each of the amazing businesses individually for their support.

Thank you to Mill Farm who donated a mid-week stay for 2 families in a glamping pod for up to 8 people; Savills in Potton who donated a cut and blow dry, Clayton’s Butchers who donated a meat voucher, Gamlingay Motors who donated a free MOT inspection, and The Coach House who donated a £25 meal-for-two voucher.

We would never have raised such a significant total for this worthy cause without the amazing selection of prizes donated by these generous local businesses. Thank you for your support.

We also want to say a special thank you to our Home Manager Zara Hetherington for leading such an amazing team, as well as our fantastic Activities Coordinator Jayne Ellis who personally contacted all of the businesses and planned the event. You worked so hard on this project with outstanding results and we are so proud of each and every member of the Potton team. Well done!
