Laurel Lodge birthday card appeal is huge success!

Doris – a resident of our Laurel Lodge Care Home in Norwich – turned 93 on Friday 17th April, and celebrated in style with cards from around the world! 

We put out an appeal for birthday cards in the local media, a massive thanks to the Eastern Daily Press who helped us publicize the appeal and helped make it a success. We also put a call out on social media and through our newsletters, and we’re pleased to say it was a roaring success. 

Doris was treated to over one hundred cards from complete strangers from all around the world – from as far as Canada and Mercia, Spain.

She was reunited with old friends who saw the appeal and sent in cards, like a family from Doncaster who she’d not seen in years – who is a friend of her son. 

She was also lucky enough to receive pieces from local artists who wanted to gift her something beautiful, and lots of drawings, poems, cards and video messages from local children. She even received a harpist rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ from Xenia Harpist. 

We wanted to ensure Doris was given the best birthday possible, as she’s spent her entire life looking after others and this would be her first birthday without her extensive family. Doris met her husband while serving in the military, and when they married they had three biological children as well as adopting four more and fostering over one hundred  and thirty to help them find their perfect family. 

We wanted to praise our staff at Laurel Lodge who were tireless in promoting the birthday card appeal, as well as decorating the home and creating an amazing atmosphere where Doris was surrounded by her fellow residents and staff. You did an amazing job! 

We wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who got involved and show you what a success the day was.  You helped give Doris an amazing day and we couldn’t resist showing you the amazing time she had!
