A very talented harpist called Xenia has successfully gained funding to provide remote live performances to care home residents – and we are over the moon!

We met Xenia late last year after she performed some beautiful music for our residents at Laurel Lodge. Since then we’ve kept in touch through Twitter, and she kindly got involved with our Birthday card appeal for Eddie Hunn – our resident veteran at Chiswick House who recently became a centurion – when she kindly created a video rendition of the Happy Birthday song for him.

Since then she has done personalised video messages for a number of our residents birthday’s, and shown herself to not only be incredibly talented but also incredibly generous.

She has now secured funding with Norwich Consolidated Charities to bring live entertainment to care homes on a regular basis, to allow residents currently in lockdown to experience live music, as they did prior to lockdown.  The project is called Breathing Space and is a collaboration in partnership with And Action.

This is how Xenia described the project:

“As I can’t come and play in person at the moment, I wanted to find a way to bring harp music to my lovely friends living in the Black Swan communities.. Norwich Charitable Foundation invited me to apply for a grant so that I can make a series of live events – Harp music is one of the most calming and relaxing sounds which is why I have called this Breathing Space- time to sit back and relax or maybe have a little dance too !”.

We are pleased to announce her first performance will be this Thursday (18th June) at 2pm via Facebook Live. To access the stream through facebook please tune into her profile by clicking this link a few minutes before the stream begins.

Alternatively you can access her live streamed zoom link which will be running simultaneously by clicking here.  You will not need to have an account or the app to access this feature, due to the way it has been set up by Xenia. This is to ensure our residents can access this in a range of ways.

Xenia is hoping to take requests from residents about what songs they would like to feature within her performances, and she asks that requests be sent to her email: xeniahorne@icloud.com

On Twitter Xenia can be found by clicking here.
